Antwerp and diamonds have been intertwined for more than 550 years. Therefore, the City and Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) developed a quality label for jewelers. The cooperation agreement for the label, ‘Antwerp’s Most Brilliant’, was officially signed at Antwerp City Hall Wednesday.

The quality label was developed by AWDC and the city of Antwerp in close collaboration with institutional partners such as the FPS Economy and professional association Ars Nobilis. The purpose of the quality label is to protect consumers and visitors, provide quality assurance and reinforce the reputation of Antwerp as world diamond centre. It provides customers with a clear and objective guarantee that they are buying top quality jewellery from a trustworthy jeweler. The label will be launched early 2014.

Ari Epstein, CEO AWDC: “The quality label for jewelers is one of the many projects we described in our Antwerp Diamond Masterplan – Project 2020. We were able to conclude this initiative within one year, thanks to the excellent cooperation with the City, FPS Economy and Ars Nobilis. The criteria jewelers have to meet to obtain the label are very strict, guaranteeing the best quality to the consumer. AWDC is very happy to contribute to this project. It is an excellent tool to further strengthen Antwerp as diamond capital of the world”.

Jewelers that want to obtain the label have to meet certain criteria and will be tested annually by independent auditor Kiwa. Jewelers that have joined the project already and obtained the label, will be incorporated in the official launching campaign in January 2014.
