Diamond data

The monthly import and export figures of the Antwerp diamond trade indicate polished trade increased in value as well as in volume in October, especially the export of polished diamonds rose.

Both polished import and export figures rose in volume and in value in October 2013. When we take a look at the traded volume of polished diamonds, we see an increase of 5.57% exported carat and an increase of 5.67% imported carat compared to last year. In value terms, this translates into an export rise of no less than 25.82% and an increase of 14.67% for imported polished diamonds. This rise of exported polished diamonds is a consequence of increased consumption, especially in the US and to a more limited extent in Hong Kong and Singapore. The approaching Holidays also play their part in the increasing demand for polished diamonds.

The trade value of imported rough diamonds dropped 3% and the trade value of exported rough diamonds dropped 4.13% compared to October 2012. In volume terms, imports decreased 16.37% and exports 14.36%. Due to a small overcapacity of rough diamonds, the worldwide production was slightly reduced, which explains these figures.
