From 15 until 18 June 2014, the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) will be holding the 36th World Diamond Congress, powered by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), in the city of Antwerp.

During the annual gathering, more than 200 delegates from across the world, from. the 28 diamond bourse members, 2 candidate members and delegations from African diamond-producing countries as well as members of IDMA and other stakeholders from the global diamond industry, will discuss various current issues. Topics on the agenda include the necessity of transparent and viable financing to spur the worldwide diamond trade, the development of a generic marketing campaign for diamonds, through the Federation’s World Diamond Mark initiative, and questions surrounding synthetic diamonds. Earlier this week, the WFDB announced Martin Rapaport as keynote speaker on Tuesday June 17th at the Diamantclub van Antwerpen.

As the Federation’s very first congress took place in Antwerp in 1947, it is not surprising that this year’s annual meeting is returning to our city. With a share of 84% of rough diamonds and half of all polished diamonds passing through Antwerp, the city is still the world’s number one diamond trade center.  Synonymous with diamonds for over five centuries, Antwerp has for centuries been the forum where the main players of the global diamond industry meet and set the tage for the future.
