Following the arrest of a diamond trader in the context of the investigation into police commissioner D., AWDC wishes to communicate the following
The Antwerp World Diamond Centre hopes that the judicial investigation into police commissioner D. and the potential involvement of a diamond trader are quickly clarified.
While the Antwerp World Diamond Centre is not directly involved and has no control over the operations and transactions of individual diamond traders, as an industry organization and in the general interest of the industry as a whole, we hope to quickly obtain insight into the role of the diamond trader in this case.
So long as the judicial inquiry is ongoing, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre will issue no further statements.
As of today you will be able to access Wi-Fi for free in the diamond district. Thanks to the joint efforts of the AWDC, HRD Antwerp, Malca-Amit, AB-DC and Blue Wave Marketing – the company responsible for developing and installing the “Free Diamond Wi-Fi Network” – you are now able to surf at will, quickly, wirelessly and free of charge, in the Schupstraat, Rijfstraat, Vestingstraat and Hoveniersstraat.
In 2015 the Antwerp Diamond Team will again participate in the Antwerp 10 Miles! On Sunday, April 26th, tens of thousands of sports enthusiasts will participate in the 30th edition of the “Antwerp 10 Miles”, one of Antwerp's most important sporting events of the year. The Antwerp diamond community should definitely be part of this event. So dust off your running shoes and join us on April 26th! AWDC will pay the registration fee for all members of the team and will provide a special T-shirt.
On Friday 27 March, the AWDC will organize an Antwerp Diamond Seminar in the presence of Mr. Herman Van Rompuy, former President of the European Council. The seminar will take place in the Antwerp Diamond Bourse from 10:30 – 13:00.
The AWDC will organize additional AML & Compliance seminars on 3 April, 17 April, 4 May and 15 May. During these specialized training seminars we will also provide a general introduction to the Belgian AML legislation and actively use the Client Acceptance Policy in realistic case studies and situations.
The AWDC Security Office (AWDC SO) and the Antwerp Local Police (LPA) work closely together to ensure the safety and security of the Antwerp diamond industry and community. Some matters of crucial importance were resolved in last month as a result of this successful collaboration.
The AWDC SO as well as the LPA DIA ensure the safety and security in the diamond district 24/7. You can always count on them!
After the Antwerp diamond industry had made it a priority in recent years to conquer the Asian market, in 2015 it will set its sights on Latin America. Brazil in particular has many opportunities with regard to diamond production. Accompanied by Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter De Crem, from 12 through 17 March the Antwerp World Diamond Centre will travel to Brazil for the first time.
