€5,000 cash payment limitation increases transparency Thursday, 8 August, 2013 CSR & Compliance

Today’s economy requires businesses to become increasingly more transparent. That is precisely why a higher level of transparency is one of the key priorities defined in the Antwerp Diamond Masterplan, summarized in the so-called ‘fifth C’ of Compliance, Confidence and CSR. The cash payment regulations fit in perfectly with that philosophy.

Since April 16th 2012, the use of cash payments in transactions is limited by the anti-money laundering legislation to a maximum of €5,000.

Antwerp remains prime diamond trading hub Thursday, 8 August, 2013 Diamond data

Antwerp's July monthly figures indicate the Antwerp diamond business is going well. Both imports of polished and rough diamonds rose significantly compared to the same month in 2012, by 5.78% and 11.07% respectively in terms of volume. Rough imports total value even increased by a solid 30.04%. Rough exports increased by 23.02% in carats and 25.25% in value, while exports of polished diamonds slightly fell by 0.79%.

In addition, the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme Annual Report (KPCS), charged with controlling and mapping the worldwide diamond production and distribution, confirms Antwerp's leading position as the world's prime diamond trading hub.

Breakthrough in Kiran Exports tiger kidnapping investigation Monday, 5 August, 2013 Events, Security

 

On Friday, August 2nd 2013 the Antwerp authorities announced a breakthrough in the investigation of a tiger kidnapping that took place on October 11th 2012 in Antwerp. At that time, three men entered the home of an employee of the Indian diamond company KIRAN BVBA. While the man's wife was kept hostage, he was forced to empty the vaults of the Kiran offices in the Hoveniersstraat in the Antwerp diamond district. The total value of the stolen diamonds was estimated at US$ 13 million.
