Okavango Diamond Company, or ODC, is a rough diamond distribution company that is wholly owned by the Government of Botswana. The company was established in 2012 to market a portion of Debswana’s rough diamond production and is now officially open for business!

Last Sunday, more than 3000 visitors got an exclusive tour behind the scenes of the Antwerp diamond industry, about thousand more than last year during the first edition. In total, more than 4000 people visited the diamond square mile last Sunday.

In the framework of the structural partnership between AWDC and Sporting A, the Antwerp diamond industry offers a diamond billiards cue to the new World Champion three-cushion billiards. The World Championship takes place from October 16 to 20 in the Lotto Arena in Antwerp.

This week, ‘Gem Diamonds’ proudly announced the recovery of two very exceptional stones in the Letseng mine in Lesotho. The first one is a blue diamond of 12.47 carat and the other one a 83.8 carat white diamond of exceptional quality. Both diamonds will be tendered in Antwerp from October 1st – 10th, on invitation only.

During ‘Open Bedrijvendag’, you will be able to learn more about diamonds and technology in the ‘Antwerpse Diamantkring’. Every day, people discover new technological developments in the diamond industry. That is why WTOCD (Wetenschappelijk en Technologisch Onderzoekscentroen voor Diamant) will show you their latest developments to produce diamonds of the best possible quality. Members of the Antwerp diamond industry can also visit this exhibition on Monday October 7th.

On Monday September 30th, AWDC participated in the ‘Roularta Job Fair’ to promote ‘Antwerp Diamond Jobs’. The fair was a huge success with over 1,500 visitors. The AWDC booth was by far the most popular one with queues of 1,5 hour. The visitors were very curious about working in the diamond industry. Most of them were looking for a job or just ended their studies. Initiatives like this job fair can attract more people to work in our brilliant industry.

On Tuesday September 24th, we took note of the communication of the FPS Economy concerning the EU’s decision lifting the restrictive measures against the Zimbabwe Mining Development Cooperation (ZMDC). Antwerp will now be able to import diamonds from the Marange mines.
