Last Friday, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) organized a large-scale evacuation exercise in the Antwerp diamond district. The exercise was the result of a cooperation between AWDC, the City of Antwerp and the Local Antwerp Police Department. The majority of the buildings and the companies located in the diamond district participated. Approximately 2200 people were evacuated.
Monday, AWDC celebrated Diwali, the fourth community event of this year. Members of the diamond industry enjoyed some typical Indian food. You can find the pictures here.
The Antwerpsche Diamantkring also organized a special Diwali event. Approximately 1000 people attended the celebration. It was a big success. You can find the pictures here.

Last week, the HRD Awards 2013 took place in Beijing. For the second time, the HRD Awards ceremony was held in China. The HRD Awards is the world’s leading contest for contemporary diamond jewellery.

Didier Reynders is very pleased with the decision of the Angolan government to provide extra flights between Brussels and Luanda, capital of Angola.
Antwerp and diamonds have been intertwined for more than 550 years. Therefore, the City and Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) developed a quality label for jewelers. The cooperation agreement for the label, ‘Antwerp’s Most Brilliant’, was officially signed at Antwerp City Hall Wednesday.

Yesterday, AWDC organized a unique networking program in Beijing. 9 Antwerp diamond companies experienced a unique business opportunity and expanded their business in China during an exclusive networking event and Meet & Greet with over 30 top Chinese retailers and jewelers.

In the framework of the lifting of the EU sanctions against ZMDC, last week an AWDC delegation and some of the leading, Antwerp based rough diamond trading companies met with Zimbabwean high officials and top representatives of the mining companies.

"See Something, Say Something!" is an AWDC SO awareness campaign. It is a simple and effective program to raise the diamond community’s awareness on indicators of possible suspicious activities and to emphasize the importance of reporting them to the AWDC SO or Local Police of Antwerp (LPA).
