In the context of the "Integrated Anti-Tiger Kidnapping Program" AWDC Security Office announces the following monthly briefing on safety, which takes place on Friday, October 24, at 10 am in the AWDC Boardroom. This briefing is meant for anyone working in the Antwerp diamond sector.

There are different physical threats possible to Antwerp Diamond Companies: fraud, theft, switching, robbery, burglary, tigerkidnapping … Since a couple of months AWDC SO observed another increasing type of threat: cyber crime.
Examples of cyber crime include, but are not limited to: email hacks, caller id fraud, money exchange fraud, invoice fraud, bank transfer fraud, malware attacks …
AWDC SO wants to reach out to the Antwerp Diamond Community to increase awareness on the recent surge of cyber crime. The focus of the training is on CEO's, GM's, CFO's and personnel mandated to order or perform financial transactions such as payments, money exchanges and transfers.

On Sunday, October 5th, the Antwerp diamond sector will be opening its doors to the public for the third year in a row. Considering the success of the previous editions of Open Company Day, we are expecting a great turnout this year as well. Antwerp Deputy Prime Ministers of the Flemish Government, Annemie Turtelboom and Liesbeth Homans, will also be paying a visit to our sector.

In response to the article entitled ‘Diamantairs arrested for drug money laundering' that was published in Gazet van Antwerpen on Thursday, 2 October, 2014, both AWDC and the Antwerp Prosecutor have issued an official statement.

AWDC is aware of the impact of the closing down of the Antwerp Diamond Bank. Sound and reliable financing are a critical factor for a successful diamond trade in Antwerp. AWDC is making all possible efforts to guarantee a sustainable solution.
The divestiture of the Antwerp Diamond Bank in 2008 was a precondition for KBC to receive state aid. AWDC has been following this crucial dossier for our sector for some time and now that the wind down has begun, we are in constant consultation with ADB. As a result, a number of safeguards have been obtained.

From 15 – 19 September, the ‘September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair’ took place. No less than 99 Antwerp diamond companies were represented in the Antwerp Diamond Pavilion. This fair still is the largest jewelry and gem fair of its kind in Asia and the rest of the world.

On Sunday 5 October, the Antwerp diamond community will participate in Open Company Day for the third consecutive time. Please note that even if you are a member of the bourses, you will have no access to any of the bourses on Sunday. Entry into the bourses is only allowed after registration and ID-control at the registration point.
