On 9 December, during its annual meeting with the company’s long-term customers, ALROSA’s management committee announced that it will extend its long-term supply contracts, which have been successfully in force since 2009. Beginning in 2015, the contract period will last three years. Approximately 70% of ALROSA’s rough diamonds are sold under long-term contract terms.
In its fourth annual report on the global diamond industry, Bain & Company forecasts a solid outlook for diamond demand, but cautions that access to diamond financing, particularly for the middle market, could hamper future market growth.
Today, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) organized a large-scale evacuation drill in the diamond district. The drill was organized in collaboration with the City of Antwerp and the Antwerp Local Police. The majority of buildings and businesses in the diamond district participated. About 2,500 people were evacuated.
On Sunday, November 30, a ceremony took place to decorate the diamond industry’s Laureates of Labor. Stéphane Fischler, President of AWDC, was awarded with the Honorary Medal of Labor.
On December 8th, 2014 AWDC will be organizing the last level 2 AML & Compliance Seminar of this year.
The seminar will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
In cooperation with AWDC and the Diamond Industry Trust, the ‘Stedelijk Lyceum Meir’ is organizing open days on 11 and 12 December for companies who are looking for interns. The open days provide companies with the opportunity to get acquainted with students who are in their 6th or 7th year of diamond processing and get to see them at work.
On November 25 and 26, 140 Belgian companies joined Princess Astrid of Belgium on an economic mission to Malaysia and Singapore. “The mission to Singapore was excellent, thanks to AWDC’s efforts. We had the opportunity to establish direct contacts with several key players. If the next mission involves an interesting market for us, we will definitely participate again," said Bart De Hantsetters of Diamcad.
On December 2nd, 2014 the 16th edition of the award ceremony for Best Belgian Sustainability Report took place. The Award is an initiative of the Belgian Institute of Registered Auditors. It encourages and rewards companies and organizations that, next to reporting on their economic and financial data, report on their activities in the framework of sustainable development in a transparent manner. AWDC is the proud winner in the category ‘other organizations’.
